Last Sunday our family visited Kingsway Pumpkin Farm in Hartville Ohio. We easily spent 3 hours at the farm participating in the various activities they have to offer. And had a great time doing so!
Family Friendly Activities at Kingsway Pumpkin Farm
The theme for this year corn maze is Fire Truck Frenzy. The maze consists of pathways that when viewed from above create a picture of a large ladder fire truck, 911 numbers and a fire.
This was the first time we’ve been to a themed corn maze and we really enjoyed it. It was fun to visualize where we were in the picture and doing so helped us navigate through. The kids enjoyed reaching certain spots (Look there is the light on top of the fire truck…Hey, we’re standing in the driver seat….Now we’re walking through the ladder!)
Signage is also located throughout the maze to indicate where you are located in the design. The signage was such a nice touch and really added to the fun. Each sign we found provided a sense of accomplishment because we knew we were heading in the right direction.
As if navigating through the maze wasn’t fun enough, there are two different games to play while inside.
- Fire Hydrant Find – There are multiple mini fire hydrants hidden through the maze. Guests who find one can bring it to the farm gazebo to receive a prize.
- Finger Color Game – Throughout the maze there are 5 different fire hydrant signs, each with a uniquely colored ink pad. Find all 5 signs and mark the tip of each finger on one hand with a different color. Once you have colored each finger, head to the gazebo to see if your pattern matches the days color combination. If so, you win a prize.
We never found the mini fire hydrants, but the kids got a kick out of coloring their fingers for the Finger Color Game.
In summary the corn maze is extremely well designed, with wide pathways and clear easy to read signage. And the two maze games added to the fun.
As you can tell from the picture above, there are quite a number of areas for children to play in. My kids enjoyed the Playground Structures, Rubber Duck Races, Mini Maze, Corn Box with Slide, Indoor Straw Tunnel, Sandbox, Coloring Cottage with a Wall Mural and Crayons, Pumpkin Toss Game, and the Train Ride ($1 each). There is no shortage of fun!
There is a section of the farm where you can get up close with a variety of farm animals including, goats, sheep, baby cows (So Cute!), ducks, geese, chickens, pigs, and rabbits.
The animals are all extremely friendly and the kids enjoyed visited each of their pens. And for .50c you can purchase a bowl of animal feed to use as you walk around.
Tractor Pulled Hayride to the Pumpkin Patch
Our kids really like hayrides. And the fact that this one was pulled by a big John Deere tractor made it even more appealing.
The ride to the pumpkin patch lasted about 10 minutes. When we arrived they let us off the wagon and we got to spend some time checking out the seven acre pumpkin patch. There was quite a variety of pumpkins to choose from, tiny ones to large ones and some that were still green.
Guests can pick their own pumpkin and the cost is .25c per pound.
Please note that the hayrides to the pumpkin patch are offered at specific times throughout the week and weekend. If you want to go on a hayride, be sure to check the schedule on the Kingsway website before planning your trip.
Overall we had a fabulous visit and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a family friendly farm festival.
