We decided to try our hand at making caramel apples this year. I'm so glad we did because they were simple to make and extremely good. We'll definitely be making them year after year.
I found an easy to follow Gourmet Caramel Apple recipe from Janelle at Comfy in the Kitchen. Instead of using Granny Smith apples like Janelle did, we used the Golden Delicious Apples that we picked from Dunlap's Apple Orchard.
Making the caramel apples only took about 40 minutes and we all got to participate in the fun.
First the kids helped me add the ingredients into the pan and then I spend the next 20 minutes patiently stirring the mixture over low heat. Doesn't it look good?!
After allowing the caramel to cool for a few minutes, my kids each took turns rolling their apples in the caramel, carefully covering every inch of the apple's surface.
The caramel was the perfect consistency, allowing us to easily coat each apple with just the right about of caramel.
And the end result, gooey delicious caramel apples that the entire family enjoyed.
