This is the sixth year that Christmas on Crownpoint has hosted their annual light display.  We had an opportunity to check it out over the weekend and really enjoyed it.  The aspect we enjoyed most was the huge screen located at the center of the display where various videos play throughout the show.  The video screen adds another element to the show: dancing lights, music and video!

To find out more about the display, we talked with Laura Forchione, one of the shows creators.

All About Christmas on Crownpoint

What are your favorite aspects of the display?  Christmas on Crownpoint was the pioneer of putting video with the lights in our area! We have a 1 story video screen that is used during the shows. There are three separate sections that make up the 25 minute show, a Christmas Memories section with a homemade animated snowman, Snowy, followed by a show paying tribute to families in our area with “Ribbons” and finally a Disney show where kids and adults will get to see some of their favorite Disney movies come to life!

How many years have you been hosting the display?  Christmas on Crownpoint started in 2009 and each year thousands of lights have been added along with one surprise element every holiday season!

How long does it take you to set up each year? Hanging lights starts on Halloween.

Why do you do it? Every year Christmas on Crownpoint donates all of its proceeds to a charitable organization. In the past we have donated over $5,000 to the Sgt. Daniel J. Patron Memorial Scholarship Fund at Perry High School, sent a child and their family to Disney World with Wishes Can Happen and this year we will be collecting monetary donations for Aultman Cancer Center.  In the past 5 years over 8,000lbs of non-perishable food items have been collected and this year the collection will benefit Stark County Hunger Task Force.

Because a picture is worth a thousand words, here are some videos of the show from previous years:

  • Christmas Memories – Featuring Snowy the Snowman and traditional Christmas Music
  • Tribute to Local Families – The video is of the Military Tribute done in 2011, this year the title of the tribute is “Ribbons”
  • Disney – Featuring portions of various Disney Movies and Songs
