Some Northeast Ohio May Festivals That You May Not Know About

Well, that winter wasn’t so bad, was it? Now we are entering May and festival season is about to get real with an explosion of festivals all over Ohio.

Here are just a few of the NE Ohio festivals that you may or may not know about…

Dandelion Festival

Dandelion Festival – Friday, May 6 – Saturday, May 7, 2016 – Dover: Breitenbach Winery celebrates the dandelion with arts and craft vendors, an art show, musical performances and plenty of cooking demonstrations.  There are also many food vendors selling such interesting dishes that may include dandelion pizza, dandelion pierogi, dandelion ice cream, dandelion fry pies and Breitenbach’s famous dandelion wine (cellar tours are also available).  It’s a great foodie experience.  Check out my 2015 Review at http://ohiofestivals.net/dandelion-may-festival-revisited/

The Hooley

The Hooley – Saturday, May 14, 2016 – Cleveland: This is a community festival for the Cleveland neighborhood of West Park, but it has an Irish flavor to it with the presence of Irish organizations, Irish bands and even some Irish grub (ie Irish egg rolls). There are plenty of activities for kids, a juried handmade arts and craft show and a nice atmosphere overall. Parking may be a little tedious, so do some research beforehand. Check out my 2014 Review at http://ohiofestivals.net/the-hooley/

Craft & Herb Festival

Craft and Herb Festival – Saturday, May 14, 2016 – Wadsworth: A nice downtown festival where you can start spring right with some plant purchases for your gardens and plant beds. If you don’t have a green thumb, there are also many interesting crafts, food options (via food trucks and local restaurants) and stores to check out during your downtown festival stroll. Check out my 2012 Review at http://ohiofestivals.net/5-craft-and-herb-festival-wadsworth-may-19-2012/

Cherry Blossom Festival

Cherry Blossom Festival – Friday, May 20 – Sunday, May 22, 2016 – Barberton: This is a community festival put on by the Barberton Area Jaycees and it offers plenty of rides, games, vendors and food. There are also pony rides and a petting zoo, but only on specific days. Check out my 2015 Review at http://ohiofestivals.net/cherry-blossom-festival-barberton/

Primavara! Romanian Festival

Primavara! Romanian Festival – Primavara! Romanian Festival – Saturday, May 21, 2016 – Fairlawn: This one day Romanian festival has all your Romanian favorites, including mititei (minced meat rolls) mamaliga (polenta with cheese and sour cream), homemade desserts, imported beers and wines and an Ethiopian coffee bar. There are also ethnic dancers, kids’ activities and a world market. Check out my 2011 Review at http://ohiofestivals.net/12-primavara-romanian-festival-fairlawn-may-21-2011/

Tremont Greek Festival

Tremont Greek Festival – Friday, May 27 – Monday, May 30, 2016 – Cleveland: This Memorial Day Weekend festival has both indoor and outdoor dining (check the menus to see where to get particular dishes), plenty of entertainment, kids’ activities and Greek merchandise. The food is really delicious at this fest, especially the stuffed grape leaves! Check out my 2011 Review at http://ohiofestivals.net/18-tremont-greek-festival-may-28-2011/

Mohican Traditions Arts and Crafts Festival

Mohican Traditions Arts and Crafts Festival – Saturday, May 28, 2016 – Loudonville: Head to Loudonville, get your camping supplied for the summer and enjoy this festival filled a nice selection of craft vendors, a historic cabin and a delicious grilled chicken dinner cooked by the Lions Club.  Check out my 2015 Review at http://ohiofestivals.net/mohican-traditions-arts-and-crafts-festival-loudonville/

Also, if you don’t mind driving a bit farther out…

Testicle Festival

Testicle Festival – Friday, May 6 – Saturday, May 7, 2016 – Tiro: This rather interesting festival started when some friends decided to fry up some animal “extras” at a local tavern. Now it’s a biker-friendly festival with music entertainment and a neighboring fire station that serves up grub for those not as adventurous. Check out my 2013 Review at http://ohiofestivals.net/4-tiro-testicle-festival-may-19-2013/

Moonshine Festival

Utica Old Fashioned Ice Cream Festival – Saturday, May 28 – Monday, May 30, 2016: This is a fun festival with plenty of things for the kids (magic shows, presentations by the Columbus Zoo, etc.), arts and crafts, parades and competitions, the chance to visit Velvet Ice Cream, great musical entertainment, grub galore and ice cream…delicious, enormous scoops of Velvet Ice Cream. Seriously…we couldn’t finish ours. Check out my 2010 Review at http://ohiofestivals.net/7-utica-sertomas-old-fashioned-ice-cream-festival-may-30-2010/
