If the funnel cakes of June festivals have made your shorts feel tight, it’s time to buy bigger shorts because the fests in Ohio are NOT stopping!
Here is a rather small sample of the July NE Ohio festivals that you may or may not know about…
Italian American Festival
Italian American Summer Festival – Friday, July 1 – Sunday, July 3, 2016 – Berea: You most likely don’t need an excuse to feast on Italian grub, but it was nice enough of this festival to wrangle in a nice assortment of Italian food vendors for your benefit. Located at the fairgrounds, there are also rides, vendors and musical entertainment.

Harry Stevens Hot Dog Festival
Harry Stevens Hot Dog Day Festival – Sunday, July 3, 2016 – Niles: Harry Stevens was the inventor of the hot dog, the drinking straw and the baseball scorecard. He was also a native of Niles, Ohio. This town festival celebrates him via a parade, a hot dog eating contest, weiner dog races, entertainment and more. There’s no review for this, but I really want to go!
Summit County Italian American Festival
Summit County Italian American Festival – Thursday, July 7 – Saturday, July 9, 2016 – Akron: Located at Lock 3, this Italian festival offers your basic Italian grub, plenty of homemade cookies, plus music, Italian souvenirs and even a Morra (Italian hand game) competition if you’re lucky.

Sunflower Wine Festival
Sunflower Wine Festival – Saturday, July 9, 2016 – Rocky River: Every year in Avon, a field of sunflowers is planted to honor a girl named Maria and raise money for cancer research (see her story here). The Prayers for Maria organization also puts on this festival in Rocky River, complete with food trucks, music and spirits. Keep in mind that the sunflower name for this festival references the field – I don’t believe that you will find sunflower wine at the event.

St. Joseph’s Ox Roast Fair
Joseph’s Ox Roast Fair – Friday, July 15 – Sunday, July 17, 2016 – Mantua: A large church festival that roasts over 3500 lbs of sirloin for sandwiches, dinners and – if you’re lucky – “sundaes” with mashed potatoes and gravy. A large amusement ride area should keep most families entertained and there are other food options, in case ox isn’t your style.

Cleveland Irish Festival
Cleveland Irish Cultural Festival – Friday, July 22 – Sunday, July 24, 2016 – Berea: Head to the fairgrounds for plenty of great Irish music, souvenirs, beer and grub! If you love the color green, there will be plenty here to catch your eye. Honestly, any festival that gives me the chance to pet an Irish wolfhound is a win in my book.

The Summer Market
The Summer Market – Friday, July 29 – Sunday, July 30, 2016 – Avon: A festival in a park along Lake Erie filled with funky furniture, antiques, artsy crafts items, food and more. A really nice summer event although food lines can get rather intense. Bring a snack just in case.
