I like to make lists. Capturing all the tasks, thoughts and ideas running through my head helps keep me sane.
When I write things down, I don't waste any more time or energy subconsciously reminding myself about the task. A list helps me prioritize and focus on the most important things. And I love the visual reminder of what I've accomplished. It feels so good to cross things off!
Because of this, I decided to make a Fall Fun Bucket List to document the things we want to do as a family over the next few months. After consulting my husband and kids we came up with the following list.
Fall Fun Bucket List
Fun Around Town
Visit an area Pumpkin Patch or Two
My kids love farms, so each year we've made it a point to spend the day a local farm to pick pumpkins, go on a hay rides and enjoy the outdoors. We've already been to Nickajack Farms and Kingsway Pumpkin Farm, and we hope to check out at least one more before the season is over.
Pick Apples at a local Apple Orchard
This is another one of our normal fall traditions. We'll pick several bushels to make crockpot applesauce, caramel apples, apple pies and more. Plus, there's nothing like eating a freshly picked apple. Delicious!
Geocaching, Geocaching and more Geocaching
About a month ago we found our first geocache and now we're hooked! It's added another level of excitement for our trips to the park. So far we've found 13 caches and by the end of the fall we're hoping to up our total to at least 30.
Boo at the Akron Zoo
We attended two years ago and the kids really enjoyed it. There were themed trick-or-treat stations throughout the zoo and they gave away full sized candy bars and other snacks.
Fun at Home
It tastes so much better than store bought applesauce and is so simple to make. I'll share my simple recipe and pictures after we make it. Hopefully it will encourage you to try it out.
Instead of it being a dreaded chore, we want to make raking leaves fun this year. This could be done by tuning it into a game of “Who can rake the pile the fastest” or “Who can create the biggest pile”. Of course, there is a lot of fun to be had after the piles are created too. I'm thinking treasure hunts and the simple act of jumping into the pile.
Crisp fall evenings are perfect for bonfires. We received a small portable fire pit as a gift for Christmas last year, and plan to put it to good use this fall. S'mores Please!
This is something we really want to try this year. It looks fairly simple to do and the outcome is delicious!
My husband and I both visited COSI as children but have yet to go back. We know our kids would love it and the new LEGO exhibit looks amazing. My little LEGO maniacs will be in awe! Updated 11/12 – We visited COSI last weekend. Read about our COSI Adventure.
Ever since my kids watched the Mighty Machines Ferry Boats they've wanted to ride on one. I checked out the attractions at Put-in-Bay and found a variety of family friendly activities including Perry’s Cave Family Fun Center, DeRivera Park and the Butterfly House. Of course the Miller Boat Line Ferries would be a highlight of the trip.
I'm optimistic that we will be able to do all the fun things on our list this year. How about you? What fun events or activities to you plan to do this fall?
If you need some inspiration, check out the list of 100 Things to Do in Northeast Ohio this Fall. There's bound to be at least a few things that your family would enjoy.
