Every year we head to a local apple orchard to pick apples. It’s one of our fall traditions and we look forward to it and the applesauce, caramel apples and other desserts we get to enjoy as a result of our hard work.
Sadly, many Northeast Ohio apple orchards lost most (or all) of their apple crop due to the frosts we had this spring. We were thankful to have an nearby orchard that wasn’t impacted and is still offering pick your own.
Our Trip to Pick Apples
We arrived at the orchard, got our bags from the roadside stand and headed out into the field of trees. Even though the morning was overcast, the sun had just come out and it was a beautiful crisp fall day.
We opted for Golden Delicious apples and were quite impressed with the quantity and quality we found on the trees. My children could easily reach the apples and had a lot of fun filling their bags.
It took a little over an hour to get 2 bushels (4 bags) full of apples. We could have gone faster, but half the fun of apple picking is enjoying the fresh air and time together as a family.
And our reward for our hour of “work,” biting into a crisp juicy fresh off the tree apple. Delicious!
