Toboggan Chutes Cleveland Ohio: A Must-Do Winter Experience

Last Updated: 5/12/2025

We’ve been to numerous sledding hills but had never been to the toboggan chutes. Because of that, we decided that it was time to make our way to the Cleveland Metroparks and try it out.

All About the Toboggan Chutes Cleveland Ohio

After we got our passes, we started the walk up to the toboggan chutes. As we made our way up the steps, I saw a sign that read ‘3 Hour Wait from this Point.’ Say What?!?!  That’s longer than I wait for rides at Cedar Point.

When we reached the end of the line we were right next to the ‘1 Hour Wait Point.’ This was quite a shock because I never considered that the wait to go down would be more than 10-15 minutes. Admittedly, we were pretty disappointed that the wait would be so long but decided not to get too upset because there was nothing we could do about it.

Thankfully, the wait ended up being shorter than an hour. We went down 3 times and waited between 25-40 minutes each time.

Helpful Tip: Don’t be like me and forget to account for the wait time. Instead, plan your arrival expecting to have a wait between rides.

Workers greet you at the top of the chutes and help you get situated on the toboggans. You can ride by yourself or with a group (up to 4 people on a toboggan at a time). We enjoyed piling on all together.

Fun Fact: Riders used to have to carry the toboggans back up to the top themselves, but now their toboggans are sent up the hill using a lift so no carrying is required!

Riding the toboggan down the chute was a lot of fun. The chute is 700 feet in length and the ride was about 5-6 seconds long.

Near the end of your ride, the time and speed are flashed on a screen. It was fun to find out who went the fastest.

Fun Fact: Our top speed was 40.6. Did you beat it?

Located next to the Toboggan Chutes is the Chalet. You can warm up instead or by the outdoor fireplace. Hot chocolate was also available to purchase. There are also restrooms in case you need them.

Overall, we had a great time at the Toboggan Chutes, we were there for about an hour and a half and we rode the toboggan’s three times. Had we realized there would be a long wait between each rider, we would have timed our trip better so we would have had more time to ride before it was time to eat dinner.

Helpful Tips for Visiting the Cleveland Metroparks Toboggan Chutes

  • Dress for the weather. It’s winter and it will be cold. You will also be standing in line so dress warm with heavy coats, hats, and gloves. Snow pants are not needed (many people were riding with jeans) but if they will help you stay warm, wear them. It won’t be as fun if you can’t feel your toes.
  • Expect a line and time your trip accordingly.
  • Stay warm while waiting with these reusable hand & pocket warmers. I love these things!
  • If you plan to visit more than one time, consider purchasing a season pass.
  • Pack your own snacks (granola bars, trail mix, crackers) that you can eat during your time in line.
  • Either bring your own thermos of hot cocoa or bring some cash to purchase it in The Chalet.
  • Have fun!

I’m curious, about what time did you visit?
We’ve never been so trying To figure out if maybe that plays a part in the wait times.
    Thanks

I can’t remember exactly, but I believe it was a Saturday morning right after they first opened for the day. My guess is that weekdays would be less crowded. You could always call them to check as well.

      Hope that helps!
