Covered Bridges in Ohio
Smolen Gulf Bridge
Dedicated in August of 2008, this amazing 613 ft. modern covered bridge is the longest covered bridge in the U.S. It spans the beautiful gulf area 93 feet above the Ashtabula River. You can drive through the bridge, but there is also paved parking for you to stop and safely walk the bridge to take pictures and explore the area. From the Indian Creek Park pavilion, you’ll also find access to the covered, Riverview Bridge below the main bridge, hiking trails, and riverbed.

Harpersfield Covered Bridge
The Harpersfield Bridge, found in Ashtabula County, is the third longest covered bridge in Ohio. Constructed in 1868, the historic 228 ft. bridge spans the Grand River. Due to a flood that washed away the land, a steel bridge was added to its north end to complete the distance in 1913. The bridge is adjacent to the Harpersfield Covered Bridge Metropark where you will find parking, restrooms, and a variety of outdoor activities.

Bridge of Dreams
The Bridge of Dreams is 370 feet long and is featured as part of the Mohican Valley Trail in Knoxville County. The scenic covered bridge and 5-mile Mohican Valley Trail are open to walkers, biking, equestrian, and horse-drawn buggy visitors. Close to the bridge, you’ll find paved parking, picnic tables, bench seating, and port-a-potty-style restrooms.

State Road Covered Bridge
Crossing the Conneaut Creek, the State Road Covered Bridge is a lovely sight with 97,000 feet of southern pine and oak, lattice windows, and scenic views. The bridge is driveable with limited roadside unpaved parking and access to the creek below.

Netcher Road Covered Bridge
Crossing over Mill Mill Creek in Jefferson Township, the Netcher Road Bridge was opened to traffic in 1999. It is a “Neo-Victorian” design, 110 feet long, 22 feet wide, and 14 feet six inches high.

Benetka Road Covered Bridge
The Benetka Road Covered Bridge is a beautiful and historic lattice truss bridge from the 1890s and a visitor favorite. With renovations in 1985, the bridge now spans 138 ft. crossing the Ashtabula River. Drivable with unpaved roadside parking, you can get a closer look, take pictures of the scenic area, or walk through the slow-moving stream.

Everett Covered Bridge
This bright red and white rebuilt covered bridge is a beautiful reminder of the history and beauty of the 1870s bridge once found here. After the original bridge was destroyed in 1975, the new historically accurate bridge was rebuilt and completed in 1986. Open for walking and pictures, the bridge is a must-see location when visiting the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. You’ll find walking trails nearby, a paved parking lot, and basic restrooms.

West Liberty Covered Bridge
Visit, but don’t blink! The West Liberty Covered Bridge is the world’s shortest covered bridge at just over 18 feet long. Newly constructed in 2011, the bridge was created to replace an old cement and metal structure. You’ll find a small visitor’s center and information about the bridge with plenty of paved parking.

Newton Falls Covered Bridge
This historically recognized covered bridge was built to cross the Mahoning River around 1831 and is the second oldest covered bridge in Ohio. In 1921 a covered crosswalk was added for the safety of children walking to school and now serves as a safe place to enjoy the bridge and get a closer look at its lattice-style construction.

Roberts Covered Bridge
Roberts Covered Bridge in Eton is the last two-lane, “double-barreled” covered bridge in Ohio. Constructed around 1929, the bridge was built to cross the Seven Mile Creek. In its new location on South Beech Street, the 1990 rebuilt bridge is a detailed reminder of these unique historic bridges.

Windsor Mills Covered Bridge
Spanning the Phelps Creek (a tributary of the Grand River) and resting on local cut stone supports, the Windsor Mills bridge is a nationally recognized historic gem. With its bright golden yellow color, the bridge blends beautifully into the nature surrounding it.
Visitors comment that you’ll want to pay close attention when looking for road signs to the bridge since they are easy to miss.

Hyde Road/Richard P. Eastman Covered Bridge
The Hyde Road Covered Bridge was built in 2014 to honor local builder, Richard P. Easterman and covers a short section of the Little Miami Bike Trail. The picturesque bridge has an old-world barn feel, painted in bright red and white with a center cupola and bicycle weather vane on top.
There is very little parking directly next to the bridge, but you will find a parking area opposite the Riding Center on E. Hyde Road. The scenic walk to the bridge is about 7 minutes from the parking area.

Lanterman’s Mill Covered Bridge
Lanterman’s Mill Covered Bridge was completed in 1989 and is a stunning addition to Mill Creek Park. The bridge crosses over Mill Creek near Lanterman’s Mill and was designed after a bridge used by farmers to bring their grain to the mill in the 1800s. The bridge spans 96 feet.

Spain Creek Covered Bridge
This little historic bridge was built in 1883 and spans Spain Creek, giving it its name. It is the shortest covered bridge in Union County at only 64ft.

Eldean Covered Bridge
This historic covered bridge was built in 1860 and spans the Great Miami River, just north of Troy, Ohio. In addition to exploring the long, 224-foot historic bridge, you’ll find it close to a bike path and the Concord Township Covered Bridge Park with a picnic shelter, port-a-potty, and parking.

Black Covered Bridge (Pugh’s Mill Covered Bridge)
The Black (Pugh’s Mill) Covered Bridge was built in 1868 to give access to a saw and grist mill owned by James B. Pugh on Four Mile (Talawanda) Creek. Part of the Oxford Recreational trails system, you will find the Black Covered Bridge easy to find and close to Miami University. Although the bridge is closed to vehicle traffic, it is accessible by foot or bicycle. When the water is low, you can enjoy exploring the stream and trails close by.
The small circular parking area is off-road and offers some seating and picnic tables.

Pottersburg Covered Bridge
The Pottersburg Covered Bridge, also known as the Upper Darby Bridge, is a bright red historic bridge that once covered the Big Darby Creek. Moved to its current location and renovated in 2006, the bridge has all of its original 1930s appearance and charm.
With off-road parking, port-a-potty, and a paved path, this historic bridge is a beautiful place to take pictures and enjoy a walk or bike ride. Follow their Facebook page for updates on events happening at the bridge.

Middle Road Covered Bridge
Built in 1868 and refurbished in 1984, the Middle Road Covered Bridge has been recognized as a “Century Bridge” by the Ashtabula County Historical Society. As one of the larger drivable bridges in the Conneaut area, the 136-ft bridge crosses the West Branch Conneaut Creek, and visitors note that the location is perfect for beautiful, rustic pictures.
