Best Things to do in October in Ohio – Scenic Overlooks, Pumpkin Patches, Corn Mazes & More

Last Updated: 4/24/2025

Pull out the sweaters, order pumpkin spiced everything and enjoy the spectacular fall season with our picks for the best events and things to do in October.

Head to the Farm

It’s time for some good old fashion fall fun on the farm. Have a blast exploring a corn maze or selecting a pumpkin from the pumpkin patch. Walk through a sunflower field or go apple picking at a local pick-your-own orchard.

Try a New Park or Playground

Take in the fall colors with a nature walk at Sippo Lake Park. Play at the playground and walk the paved trail at City of Green Central Park. Explore the cliffs, waterfalls, caves and more on a hike at Nelson Kennedy Ledges State Park.

Try the Canopy Walk at Holden Arboretum

3,600 acres, over 20 miles of trails, a Canopy Walk, Observation Tower with views all the way to Lake Erie, and a natural play area for kids, the Holden Arboretum is quite the gem! Plus, it’s also dog-friendly, so you can bring your pup along to enjoy the fun.

Take in a Breathtaking View at a Scenic Overlooks

Northeast Ohio is home to several stunning overlooks and fall is a great time to visit because of the bright blue skies and changing leaves. Three of our favorite spots include Ledges Trail Overlook at the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, Cascade Valley Metro Park‘s South Scenic Overlook and Tinkers Creek Gorge Overlook in the Cleveland Metroparks Bedford Reservation.

Drive around to the Best Fall Foliage Spots

One of the best things about fall in Ohio is the changing colors. Grab a coffee from your favorite local shop and spend an afternoon (or entire day) on a scenic drive. Wondering where to go? Follow one of these Fall Foliage Driving Tours.

Celebrate Halloween

Get ready for a spooktacular time because there is no shortage of Halloween fun this year! Take the kids to one (or more) of these family friendly (non scary) Halloween events. Drive around to see these over the top Halloween yard displays. Get your candy and costume ready for Trick or Treat. Experience a thrill at a Haunted House.
