Kick of the year on a high note with family fun around town. From outdoor activities to winter getaways, there’s lots to do! Get out and explore with our picks for best events and things to do January.

Discover the Best Place for Winter Sports

Bundle up, get the hot cocoa ready and head out for some wintertime fun. Check out the area sled riding hills, or leave the sleds at home and take a ride down the 700ft toboggan chutes in Cleveland. Grab some friends and go snow tubing (there are even options for glow tubing at night) or head to an area ski resort.

Celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Because schools are closed to observe the holiday, you may be looking for fun things to do. Thankfully there are many fun activities planned. Some of the events are specifically designed to remember Martin Luther King Jr., while others are just fun options to get you out of the house. {Find Out More}

Feed Chickadees from the Palm of your Hand

It's an experience you won't want to miss! The feeling of tiny bird feet on your hand as they snack on the sunflower seeds is sure to bring a smile to your face. Wondering where to go? Head to Bird in Hand at Beech Creek Gardens, the Cleveland Metroparks Brecksville Reservation, or the hand feeding station at West Woods in the Geauga Parks District.

Stay Out of the Cold and Burn Off Energy

Let's face it, January is cold and sometimes it's nice to do something that doesn't require multiple layers, gloves and a hat. Take the kids to an indoor play center. Channel your inner ninja and challenge the family to complete one of these obstacle courses. Lace up some skates and head to the roller rink. Play put-put indoors at one of the Glow in the Dark Indoor Miniature Golf

Lace Up Your Skates and Go Ice Skating

Northeast Ohio is home to a handful of seasonal outdoor skating rinks.  Admission is typically inexpensive (and sometimes FREE) and there is a small fee to rent ice skates (assuming you don't have a pair of your own).

Pretend it's Summer at an Indoor Waterpark

It's true, you can put on a bathing suit and splash in the water during the month of January in Ohio. And bonus, you don't need to worry about applying sunblock or getting a sunburn! Get your summer fix this month at one of these Indoor Waterparks in Ohio.

Turn the Snow into Delicious Treats

Grab some freshly fallen snow and make homemade snow ice cream or honey snow candy. Make sure to put the recipe ingredients on your shopping list now, so you are ready once the next big snowfall comes.
